GPGC MEMBERSHIP AND RENEWAL INFO

For over 100 years the GPGC has provided one of the best public golf club experiences in the Southland. Our events are staged on our two championship courses, Wilson and Harding, which have been host to professional events like the LA Open and the Special Olympics. As a member-oriented club our goal is to promote a relaxed and inclusive environment where you can enjoy both friendly competition and camaraderie--a place truly worthy of being called your “home" course.

As a member of the GPGC you’ll enjoy:

  • Dozens of weekend and weekday tournaments on Wilson and Harding
  • Traveling tournaments to some of the Southland’s best courses
  • The GPGC Charlie Chaplin Cup
  • Player of the Year year-long competition
  • Member social events
  • Match play events both within our club and against other clubs
  • A new member towel and bag tag
  • GHIN Number
  • SCGA Membership
  • And much more!

Membership in the Griffith Park Golf Club automatically includes Southern California Golf Association. Your membership requires renewing annually.

All new members establishing or re-establishing may need to wait several days before they will be recognized by SCGA and be able to post scores through GHIN.com. If you are establishing a handicap during this time, save your score cards to enter later, or forward them to Handicap Chairman Susan Freed.

An important function of the Club is to establish a Registered Handicap Index. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) will provide you with a GHIN number if you don't already have one. Your Handicap Index is your relative golfing ability. Your handicap will change depending on the complexity of the course that you play, but your index won't change until the next update. Each course has a "slope rating" and "tee designation" handicap table versus index table for determining your handicap to a whole number at a particular course.

The score you are required to post may differ from the total number of strokes you have played.  You must use the USGA’s current equitable stroke control rules to figure your adjusted score for any given hole (essentially, it is “net double bogey”).

In tournament play, the club will post your score. This is the only time you should not post your score.

TOURNAMENTS

Our annual tournament schedule and tournament results will be posted on our site. The Club has dozens of tournaments each year with Individual Stroke Play Format that are played on both weekends and weekdays. Our home courses are Griffith Park's Wilson and Harding courses, which are known as the most revered 18-hole courses in Los Angeles by the majority of golfers in the metropolitan area. Some tournaments have prizes for Long Drive, Closest to Pin, Gross and Net Skins contests, and Low Scores for multiple Flights. There is a Holiday Shotgun Tournament with banquet and General Club Meeting planned each year. The Annual Club Championship is normally held between July and September.

The fee for regular weekday tournaments is around $50. On weekends, fees are $65 or more for all categories, and carts are usually extra. Prize money winnings are listed under “Tournament Credits” and may be used to pay for club tournament entry fees throughout the year. Guests may be invited to play with a sponsoring member a maximum of two times in a season, but guests may not be eligible for prizes except for special guest prize events that will be listed in the tournament description.

To sign up for an event visit the Upcoming Events page, click on the event you want to sign up for, and follow the instructions to sign up for a tournament by paying with a Visa or MasterCard.

Please note that for your first tournament as a GPGC Regular Member you will play to 70% of your established current index and be paired with a board member as a means to evaluate your play and welcome you to the club respectively.

*Some modifications to these policies have been implemented during Covid.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER TOURNAMENT POLICY AND UPGRADES

Associate Members are invited to play in one GPGC tournament each calendar year (The Memorial tournament in the fall) to get a feel for the club and see if they want to upgrade to a Full Membership. In tournaments, Associate Members will pay the same entry fee as other members but will play to 70% of their current handicap (or at their GHIN index in a special associate flight when available), but are not allowed in any side games like skins, and any winnings must go towards upgrading their membership to a Full Membership.

Associate Members may upgrade to a Full Membership for a prorated free at any time they wish. For more info, please email Membership Chairman Tanna Barker.
